The doubts over Rohit Sharma's fitness have been cleared on Wednesday, as the newly appointed white-ball skipper has reportedly passed the mandatory fitness tests with flying colours. The Hitman is set to join the team and lead the side against West Indies in the home series. The teams will play three ODIs, starting from February 6, 2022, followed by three T20I matches.

As per reports, Rohit will meet the national selectors in Bengaluru in the evening to have the team selection. While Ravindra Jadeja's fitness report is also awaited as an all-rounder is expected to return on the West Indies tour. Players from the West Indies series might be given rest are Jasprit Bumrah, R Ashwin, Shardul Thakur.

Apart from Rohit Sharma, many players are set to make a return in white-ball cricket. Players like Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Rishi Dhawan are expected to have their name in the squad. Ever since his appointment as regular captain in white-ball cricket, Rohit Sharma was coping with a hamstring injury due to which he missed the South African tour. Reportedly, the national selection panel, headed by former India pacer Chetan Sharma, will pick the squad this week for the series. Having recovered from a hamstring injury that forced him to miss India's tour to South Africa, Rohit will formally take charge of India's ODI squad in the series opener.

The ODI series against West Indies is a highly-anticipated contest for India, as they have recently suffered white-wash against South Africa. Since Kohli was sacked from the job, KL Rahul had to don the captaincy cap in the absence of Rohit Shamra, but now the Mumbai Indians skipper is fit to lead the team. KL Rahul will return to his previous role of being the deputy of Rohit.

A good performance against West Indies will help the Men in Blue regain motivation in the 50-over format of the game. All three matches of the ODI series will be played in Ahmedabad, with three T20I matches lined up which will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
