As the Augusta Nationals is nearing, golf fans around the world have been presented with some rumours about the return of the great Tiger Woods in this prestigious tournament. The former world number one suffered a life-threatening car accident 14 months ago and has been recovering from countless surgeries.
Talking about Tiger’s return, former world number one, Rory Mcllroy expressed how it would be incredible for everyone. He was quoted saying, “I think for golf and the Masters’ tournament and everyone, to have Tiger [Woods] there would be phenomenal. I spent some time with him at his house a few weeks ago. At that point, it didn’t look possible. He’s definitely made a lot of big strides over the last few weeks.
Mcllroy spoke about how he saw Tiger Woods walking around the course as he said, “I saw him yesterday [Tuesday] at Augusta and he looked great. ‘I’m just seeing what’s going to happen here if I can make it around 18’. He is being conservative but he is doing everything he can to see if he can play. If he does it would be a monumental achievement from where he was last year.”
Then the Northern Irishman also mentioned how it would also be incredible to see the 15-time champion at the Champions Dinner or play at the par three. He said, “And everyone would love to see him there regardless if he plays or doesn’t play, goes to the Champions Dinner, plays the par-three, whatever it is. Having Tiger Woods in the game again is great for all of us. It’s great to see him back and just considering playing next week is a great thing.”
Mcllroy also talked about how Woods’ return would be a truly amazing feat and an inspiration for everyone. He said, “It’s not even being somewhat healthy, it’s also what he has to do before the round and after the round just to get himself ready to go and play golf. Yeah, the sheer will and perseverance, it is incredible.”
“If he comes back from this again, it’s just, he likes to prove people wrong, he likes to prove himself wrong, I think. Regardless of when he does come back, whether it’s next week or a few weeks, few months down the line, he’s a wonderful addition to the game and the game of golf is better when he’s playing and when he’s playing well.”
