It was a massive day in Indian politics as the country got its 15th President in the form of Draupadi Murmu. The NDA-backed Murmu beat veteran politician Yashwant Sinha to become the first tribal politician and only the second woman to hold the highest office in India. The 64-year-old who hails from Odisha won the contest by a fine margin as more than 50% of MPs and MLAs voted in her favor.

With Murmu scripting history by winning the Presidential election, wishes poured for the 64-year-old from around the corner. From politicians, and actors to sports personalities, everyone joined hands in congratulating Draupadi Murmu on winning the election for the highest post in the country. Former India cricketers, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman led the sports fraternity in congratulating India’s new President.

Tendulkar pointed out the hardships faced by India’s first tribal President and opined that her story can inspire people across all walks of life. The former cricketer also wished best for outgoing President Ramnath Kovind.

"Smt. Draupadi Murmu ji’s journey of progress despite personal hardships can inspire people across all walks of life. Heartiest congratulations on being elected the next Hon. President of India. Wishing the best of health & happiness to outgoing Hon. President Ram Nath Kovind ji," Tendulkar tweeted.
