Sagar Ahlawat won a silver in his maiden international competition as he lost to England's Delicious Orie in the final of the men's +92kg boxing division. India's boxing squad has now earned seven medals (three gold, one silver and three bronze) so far in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022.

Born on 30 October 1998, Sagar hails from Dhandlan village in Jhajjar. He grew up in a farming family which had no history in athletics. Growing up, Sagar didn't show a lot of interest in studying and was looking for something different until he discovered boxing. However, Sagar is a BA III student from GGDSD College and has been studying in Chandigarh for the last seven years.

After he found out about the sport in a newspaper article about the big ticket fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao that took place seven years ago, Sagar kicked off his boxing career at the college level as his first major victory came in 2019 where he won the gold at the All India University Games.

He then went on to win two more gold medals at the Khelo India University Games in the coming years. For qualifying for the 2022 CWG, Sagar defeated India’s No. 1 super heavyweight and 2020 Tokyo quarterfinalist Satish Kumar 5-0 and reigning national champion Narender at the national selection trials in Patiala.
