Notably, IPL 2021 was suspended after multiple COVID-19 positive cases emerged within the bio-bubbles. While the first case was reported from the Kolkata Knight Riders camp where Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier tested positive, later Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Lakshmipati Balaji were also diagnosed of the infection. Later, Sunrisers Hyderabad's Wriddhiman Saha and Delhi Capital's Amit Mishra were tested positive which led to the Board of Control for Cricket in India took the drastic step of suspending the tournament in consultation with the IPL Governing Council.

IPL "suspended" not "cancelled"

Meanwhile, BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla has clarified that the tournament stands "suspended" as of now and it is not "cancelled." He added that that the decision on the completion of the tournament will be taken in due course of time even though there is little window amid a packed cricketing schedule this year.
