Star Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has received a three-match ban in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) for his conduct on the field in the game against Abahani Ltd on Friday. While he had apologised for his action later, he has still been given the sanction by the authorities. This implies that he will not be able to play in the eighth, ninth, tenth rounds of the DPL.

Notably, Shakib lost his temper not once but twice in the same match on Friday. His reaction came after the on-field umpire turned down his appeal. There were two occasions when Shakib was not impressed with the umpire's decision and let the emotions get the better of him, even kicking the stumps in frustration.

Sorry for ruining the match for everyone: Shakib

In an apology note on his social media, the 34-year-old wrote, "Dear fans and followers, I am extremely sorry for losing my temper and ruining the match for everyone and especially those who are watching from home. An experienced player like me should not have reacted that way but sometimes against all odds it happens, unfortunately. I apologize to the teams, management, tournament officials and organizing committee for this human error. Hopefully, I won't be repeating this again in the future. Thanks, and love you all. SAH."

The star southpaw had decided to skip the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to play in this domestic competition. The DPL 2019-20 season was postponed last year after just one completed round of matches in compliance with measures taken to fight the COVID-19 outbreak in the country but resumed on May 31 this year.
