The depth and quality in the Indian cricket team have enabled BCCI to announce two different sets of teams for two overseas outings for the first time. While Virat Kohli and company will be visiting the UK to play the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship Final against New Zealand followed by a 5-match Test series with England, a second-string side will play the white ball series against Sri Lanka starting from July 13. With no Virat Kohli for Sri Lanka tour, a couple of names are speculated to lead the side, which includes the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, and Hardik Pandya.

For me, a senior person should become a captain: Chahar

Indian right-arm medium-pace bowler Deepak Chahar is of the opinion that veteran southpaw Shikhar Dhawan should lead the team for their white ball assignment. The 28-year-old bowler is likely to be included in the squad. Chahar, who has played 3 ODIs and 15 T20Is, has performed quite well in the shorter formats, picking 18 in the T20Is.

“Shikhar Bhai will be a good choice for captain. He has been playing for a long-time and has a lot of experience. For me, a senior person should become a captain. Because players see that player as senior and respect him and obey him with honesty”, Chahar added on his pick for Dhawan.

I am all set for the Sri Lanka tour

Chahar is likely to lead the attack along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar. “I am all set for the Sri Lanka tour. I bowled well in the IPL. I was in good touch. In my opinion, experience gives you a lot of confidence. I have experience now and I am confident of a good showing in Sri Lanka”, said the bowler.

Deepak further added that he is sure India will emerge victorious against Sri Lanka, adding that the second-string team is as strong as the main team.
