Shikhar Dhawan, the Punjabi Munda, is all set to take over the leadership duties of IPL franchise Punjab Kings from next season onwards and an official announcement on the same will be made very soon. The franchise, who had to release captain KL Rahul after the end of last season, were in search of a new captain and looks like they have found one.
Earlier, people had assumed that Mayank Agarwal, who was retained for Rs 12 crore, could be their new leader. However, the uncertainty around the same continued when there was no official announcement made until the mega auction. It looked like Punjab Kings were still looking for someone else and fans got a fair idea of who he could be, in the very beginning of the auction.
PBKS bid aggressively for Shikhar Dhawan, who was the first player out of hat at IPL 2022 mega auction, and they secured the services of 36-year-old for Rs 8.25 crore.

Punjab's head coach Anil Kumble was delighted with the signing as he claimed that it was indeed like a return to home for Shikhar Dhawan. Without naming anyone, PBKS co-owner Ness Wadia had also said, "We have got our captain, we are very happy with the squad we have picked, We will make the captaincy announcement soon."
Considering the fact that some members of the franchise have talked about the importance of an Indian captain, it is indeed going to be Shikhar Dhawan as he is the only contender for the position, alongside Mayank Agarwal.

"Team is very elated to have Shikhar Dhawan in the squad. Dhawan has a mature head and will be entrusted to lead Punjab in IPL. Coach, promoters all are in favour of Dhawan as captain of Punjab Kings. An official announcement will be made in next few days," a source close to the franchise recently revealed.
The Punjab Kings' fans would surely be elated with the news and Gabbar leading them in IPL 2022 will indeed be a sight to watch for all cricket lovers. Fans would now be hoping for this to become official as soon as possible.
