The ongoing 3rd Test between England and New Zealand saw some fight-back from the visitors. After batting first, New Zealand posted 329/10 in 117.3 overs on the back of Daryl Mitchell’s 190 and Tom Blundell’s 55 in the first innings. For England, off-spinner Jack Leach picked five wickets.

In response to Kiwi’s 329, England had a miserable start to their first innings as Trent Boult turned out to be lethal for the hosts as the experienced pacer reduced England to 17/3 in 6.5 overs.

While England batters kept losing their wickets at regular intervals, Jonny Bairstow held the fort from one side and kept adding valuable runs to keep the scoreboard moving. After Boult’s brutality, Tim Southee and Neil Wagner joined hands to make things worse for the hosts as they together picked three wickets in a quick session.

England was soon reduced to 55/6 in 11.5 overs. However, Bairstow continued his sublime form as he smashed a valiant century in the first innings in just 95 balls. Notably, this was Bairstow‘s second century on the trot.

Bairstow’s knock was also applauded by Barmy Army, a popular fan group of England’s cricket team, as the members of the group picked their shoes in hand and raised it in the air as they sang, ‘Shoes off, if you love Bairstow!’  Check out the video below.

England managed to score 264/6 by the end of Day 2 as Jonny Bairstow (130 off 126) and Jamie Overton (89 off 106) are still unbeaten at the crease.
