Sri Lanka defeated Australia convincingly by a margin of innings and 39 runs to level the test series 1-1. Australia won the toss and opted to bat first in this test and posted a score of 364 runs on the board despite a 6-wicket haul from Prabath Jayasuriya with the help of centuries from Marnus Labuschagne and Steven Smith. In response, Sri Lanka batted Australia out of the game by taking a huge 190-run lead.
Initially, Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis posed a huge threat for the Aussies with their 152-run partnership and later Dinesh Chandimal played a superb counter-attacking innings to bring Lankans on track in this game. Chandimal’s double hundred was well supported by Angelo Mathews and Kamindu Mendis’ fifty-plus scores.
The Aussies got bundled out for just 151 runs in their 2nd innings and once again debutant Prabath Jayasuriya stood out for his team registering figures of 6/59.
