The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been extremely exasperated at the NCA after CSK fast bowler  Deepak Chahar suffered a second injury while recovering from a quadricep tear. Chahar suffered a back injury that ruled him out of IPL 2022, consequently, he could also be out of the T20 World Cup.

The BCCI has sent a fierce warning to the NCA physios as Chahar’s injury is not an isolated incident and has demanded to “Sort out the mess” as reported by InsideSport.  According to the report, a senior BCCI official said,  “It’s absurd to understand how a player can have a second injury while recovering from another injury. The message is very clear to NCA. They have to sort out this mess as we have had a string of injuries and we can’t risk many with important events coming up.”

"We will decide the next course of action"

“We will have a meeting with Nitin and VVS to find out why exactly we have so many injuries and we will decide the next course of action. But to tell you honestly, no one is happy with the situation,” the report continued.  The BCCI official also said “Injuries are part and parcel of a player’s life but it is up to the NCA and the concerned teams to manage it. Hardik’s situation was unavoidable. But we have to set this straight.”

“We are going to turn the NCA’s rehab department into a world-class setup with cutting-edge technologies so that injuries can be managed well. If needed, we won’t hesitate in bringing the best physios from other countries.”

Too many late recoveries

Alongside Deepak Chahar, other players have also suffered delayed recoveries at the NCA. This started with the mismanagement of Hardik Pandya’s back injury that resurfaced again and hence he decided to treat the issue from the outside. Ravindra Jadeja was sidelined longer than expected after a broken thumb.

A similar concern was raised when India captain Rohit Sharma’s frequent injuries too not managed appropriately by the NCA. Suryakumar Yadav and Ruturaj Gaikwad also took a longer time than expected to recover from their respective injuries before the 2022 IPL.
