Former India opener Virender Sehwag has made a huge statement while comparing the captaincy styles of two of India's most successful India captains in Sourav Ganguly and Virat Kohli. Sehwag said that while Ganguly made a team as a skipper, he has his doubts on whether Kohli was able to do the same as a captain in his tenure.

However, Sehwag said that statistically Kohli's results may remain the best in the business but he could not match the team legacy that was built by the current BCCI President when he was the captain. Sehwag made these statements while speaking in an episode of 'Home of Heroes' on Sports 18.

"Sourav Ganguly built a new team, brought in new players and backed them through their highs and lows. I doubt if Kohli did that in his tenure," Sehwag said.

"In my opinion, the #1 captain is the one who builds a team and gives confidence to his players. He (Kohli) backed some players, some he did not," he added.

Prithvi Shaw can bring back the excitement in Test cricket: Sehwag

In the interview, Sehwag also shared his views on Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw. He said that opening with Pant in limited-overs cricket may not be that bad an option. He also backed Prithvi Shaw as the one player to watch out for in the future. As per Sehwag, with both Pant and Shaw in the same Indian lineup, even a total of 400 wouldn't be safe in Test matches.

"He (Shaw) is a player who can bring back the excitement in Test cricket," Sehwag said before adding, "Opposition will have to think if 400 would be enough with Shaw and Pant in our ranks."

While India had lost the inaugural ICC World Test Championship, Sehwag believes that the duo of Pant and Shaw could play a pivotal role in helping India win that trophy.
