The BCCI-Kohli saga is seeing new developments with every passing day. Even though Virat Kohli has relieved himself from captaincy duties in all three formats, controversies are not leaving him alone. Ever since Sourav Ganguly took charge as the President of the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI), major changes have taken place. The Sourav Ganguly-Jay Shah duo convinced MS Dhoni to mentor the national side at the T20 World Cup. Then they brought in Rahul Dravid as the coach of the team. The duo has successfully enforced many such bold decisions.

However, a change in captaincy has not been so smooth, both for BCCI and Virat Kohli. While Kohli gave up the T20I captaincy willingly, he was sacked from ODI captaincy. Later, he stepped down as the Test captain as well. However, some reports claimed that he would have been sacked from red-ball captaincy as well if he had not resigned. All this drama has sparked a lot of controversy around the functioning of the India cricket board.

A report about Sourav Ganguly sending show-cause notice to Virat Kohli regarding the press conference he had held before India’s tour of South Africa further fueled the debate over the processes of the BCCI. The report had claimed that the BCCI President wanted to send notice to Kohli for his take on the captaincy change decision.

But a new report in ANI has claimed otherwise. In the latest development, ANI has quoted Sourav Ganguly saying “Not true” for the reports of him sending show-cause notice to Virat Kohli. “When ANI contacted Ganguly for a comment on the reports that have emerged lately, he replied: “Not true.” wrote the news agency.

Clouds of uncertainties over India’s new Test captain

Since Virat Kohli has stepped down from Test captaincy as well, the BCCI is searching for a new and equally able captain. Although Rohit Sharma’s name looks certain for the role, an official announcement is still awaited from BCCI. But there are experts claiming that passing the captaincy baton to Rohit Sharma may not be a fruitful decision if BCCI is looking for a long-term option. The reason for the same has been his injury concerns and his age.

On the other hand, the second candidate (KL Rahul) is yet to prove his mettle in the leadership role. Rahul has led India in three international games so far and the team lost on all three occasions. Thus, it becomes interesting to see who is handed the Test captaincy and at whom is BCCI looking for the deputy role.
