The Wednesday evening (01 June 2022) saw some interesting turn events involving the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President and former cricketer Sourav Ganguly. The former India captain shared a message on social media which seemed like a farewell message. Ganguly thanked his fans for their support till now and asked for more as he is going to enter a 'new chapter'.

"2022 marks the 30th year since the start of my journey with cricket in 1992. Since then, cricket has given me a lot. Most importantly, it has given me the support of all of you. I want to thank every single person who has been a part of the journey, supported me, and helped me reach where I am today. Today, am planning to start something that feel will probably help a lot of people. I hope you continue your support as enter this chapter of my life," wrote Ganguly on Twitter.

With this message coming, everyone assumed that Ganguly has resigned from his post of BCCI President and will take up something new. However, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah immediately clarified that Ganguly is still with BCCI and will continue with his post on the Indian cricket board.

"The rumours doing rounds about Mr Sourav Ganguly stepping down from the post of BCCI President are factually incorrect. We have some exciting times in the form of media rights coming up and my colleagues and I are completely focused on the upcoming opportunity and safeguarding the interest of Indian cricket," Jay Shah, BCCI Secretary told ANI.

Notably, Sourav Ganguly took over as the BCCI chief in late 2019, after India's ODI World Cup campaign. In September 2022, Ganguly is set to complete three years of his tenure. During his tenure, Ganguly has brought in many changes, expanding the Indian Premier League (IPL) was one of them. BCCI under Ganguly's leadership is also working on Women's IPL.
