South Africa have announced the women's netball team for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games 2022 to be held from July 28 to August 8 in Birmingham, England. The experienced Bongi Msomi is named the captain of the SA women's netball team.

South Africa have named a strong squad of 12-netballers with Bongi Msomi to lead the team at the CWG 2022. The African-side are in the Group A, along with the likes of Australia, Jamaica, Scotland, Wales and Barbados. Group B comprises New Zealand, England, Malawi, Uganda, Trinidad & Tobago and Northern Ireland.

Two top-placed teams from each group will qualify for the CWG 2022 netball semifinals that will be played on August 6, with the medals matches are scheduled to take place on August 7.

South Africa netball squad:

Khanyisa Chawane, Izette Griesel, Phumza Maweni, Tshinakaho Mdau, Bongiwe Msomi, Lenize Potgieter, Lefebre Rademan, Nicola Smith, Elmeré van der Berg, Shadine van der Merwe, Ine-Marí Venter, Zanele Vimbela

Meanwhile, South Africa have also announced its 15-member women's T20 squad for the inaugural women's cricket event at the Commonwealth Games. Team SA are in Group B alongside New Zealand, England and Sri Lanka.

The last time a cricket tournament took place at the CWG was back in 1998 as the men's team played a 50-overs format cricket in Kuala Lumpur. South Africa claimed the gold after beating Australia in the final during the 1998 games.
