After allowing India to win the first ODI without much trouble, the hosts will be looking to put up a better showing in the second ODI. Batting first in the first ODI, Sri Lanka posted 262/9, a below par score on a track that was good for batting. Chamika Karunaratne top scored for the Lankans with a knock of 43 runs off 35 balls. Captain Dasun Shanaka scored 39 off 50.
In reply, opener Prithvi Shaw who scored 43 off 24 gave India a quick start and debutant Ishan Kishan made a quick-fire 59 off 42 balls to make the chase a fairly easy task. Manish Pandey scored 26 off 40. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan who scored 86 off 95 balls and Suryakumar Yadav who made 31 off 20 balls remained unbeaten as India won the first match of the series.
Moreover, Sri Lanka will now be aiming to stay alive in the series so this contest is even more exciting.
The hosts are not expected to make any changes to the eleven which started the first game. Only change which can be seen is chinaman Lakshan Sandakan making way for Akila Dhananjaya.
There is no reason for the visitors to change anything in their playing eleven. India will be looking to wrap up the series in game two on Tuesday and then maybe think about giving others a chance in the third and final ODI.
Prithvi Shaw: After a blistering knock in the first ODI, young Prithvi Shaw took the game away from the Lankans in the first six overs. Getting Shaw early will be one of the targets for the Sri Lankan bowlers or else the Mumbai-lad could once again take the game away single-handedly.
Shikhar Dhawan: Shaw’s opening partner and skipper for this tour Shikhar Dhawan is another danger man for Sri Lanka. Dhawan scored an unbeaten 86 off 95 balls to chase the target inside 37 overs.
Dasun Shanaka: The Lankan skipper will have to put up a better show both with bat and ball in the second ODI if he wants his side to stay alive in the series.
Probable Playing XI:
