Marizanne Kapp's wife Dane van Niekerk abused on social

South African star Marizanne Kapp did manage to lift the Women’s Big Bash League with her team Perth Scorchers handing a defeat to Adelaide Strikers by 12 runs. Kapp was the star of Scorchers’ win as she chipped in with a vital 23-ball 31 to provide a solid finish to the team’s innings and help them post a decent 146 on the board.

Unsurprisingly, when Scorchers lifted their maiden title at home, she was adjudged the Player of the Match in the final with India’s Harmanpreet Kaur getting the Player of the Tournament award.

On the other side of the spectrum was her partner Dane van Niekerk who only scored six runs off 13 deliveries which was clearly not the ideal performance expected from her in the titular clash. While an athlete can have good and bad days and it is pretty much part of the game and a sporting career, she became a victim of online abuse and the messages did reach Kapp.

Later when the Scorchers star came to know of the incident she asked the abusers to stop abusing her partner.

“This is NOT okay guys! Stop abusing players, we are human! Stop abusing my wife @Danevn811. We are sick and tired of the abuse we get when we fail!” she wrote alongside two pictures of messages that her spouse has received.

During the match, an interesting incident happened as Kapp delivered a maiden over to her wife Dane van Niekerk before ending with figures of 1/25 in her four overs spell. However, Kapp revealed why she was nervous before this do-or-die game.

“I’m a bit nervous that I got her out twice this season and I’m nervous that the third time might be her day. If we bowl first, it’s literally me up against her immediately. Every now and then she’s a bit upset with me because she’s said previously that people absolutely annihilate her on social media every time I get her out, so she’s not looking forward to that,” Kapp said as quoted by cricket.com.au.

“But look, it’s part of the game and we’re used to it. I always tell everyone that it’s never easy playing against Dane because she knows me so well and she knows what I’m thinking and what I’m trying to do,” she added.
