After a one-sided contest in the first match of Thursday’s doubleheader, all eyes were set on the evening encounter with Kolkata Knight Riders locking horns with Rajasthan Royals. Eoin Morgan’s side needed a win to push their case further in pursuit of qualifying for playoffs. On the other hand, RR were playing to spoil KKR’s party and provide a helping hand to Mumbai Indians.
As it turned out, Sanju Samson’s side were absolutely outplayed on the day as they stood no chance against a formidable Kolkata side. After asking the Men in Purple to bat first, RR looked short of ideas on the field as KKR batsmen played some glorious shots to post an above-par total of 171/4 in 20 overs on a difficult batting wicket in Sharjah.
Another batting collapse for Samson’s side in run-chase
Fans were expecting RR to give KKR a run for their money in the second innings. However, it was not to be! Sanju Samson’s side once again succumbed under pressure and suffered a dramatic batting collapse as they were bowled out on 85, losing out the match by 86 runs. Meanwhile, the big win for KKR almost booked their spot in the play-offs unless something very dramatic happens on Friday.
