The Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a massive defeat at the hands of Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals in Match 5 of the Indian Premier League on Tuesday, 29 March. However, it was the Hyderabad side which lost the game, but they were handed another massive blow after the match.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad were fined after they maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Rajasthan Royals at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on March 29. With this, Williamson became the second captain to have been handed this fine after Rohit Sharma, who was fined in their match against Delhi Capitals.

"As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson was fined Rs 12 lakhs," IPL's official statement read.

The Hyderabad skipper expressed disappointment after being handed 61-run defeat at the hands of Royals. "For us there's still a number of things to touch on and improve on as a side. You got to keep your chin up and move on to the next one," Williamson said in the post-match presentation.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad will next play against the newly-formed Lucknow Super Giants on April 4, 2022.
