On Monday (25 July), the former Indian captain, MS Dhoni has been issued a notice by Supreme Court (SC). The apex court stayed the arbitration proceedings, which were commenced by the Delhi High Court (HC) against the Amrapali Group.

The bench comprised of justice like Justices U U Lalit and Bela M Trivedi have taken note of securing the interest of the Amrapali home buyers. They also added that the former management, who are behind the bars are not expected to represent the Amrapali group in the proceedings. The bench has issued notices to two arbitration cases.

"We issue notices to two claimants of two arbitrations cases," the bench said, after staying the arbitration proceedings.

The first arbitration has been commenced by the S.T. Constructions against Amrapali Princely Estate Private Ltd, while B.S. Chauhan is chosen as its arbitrator. The other one is the Dhoni against Amrapali Homes Projects Private Ltd, with Justice Veena Birbal, as the arbitrator.

"Now, with the erstwhile Amrapali management behind the bars, it is not possible for the court-appointed receiver to go before the arbitrator in connection with individual claims. Today, the top court was apprised of this matter, and, after hearing arguments, issued a notice," said Kumar Mihir, counsel for home buyers.

42 Crores from MS Dhoni!

The 2011 World Cup-winning captain endorsed the Amrapali group for roughly six years and was their brand ambassador. However, the group lured the investors by promising them flats, which finally ended as a scam project.

Many of the Amrapali home buyers are miffed with Dhoni and find him one of the accused in the fraud, which has resulted in losing their money. They are reportedly trying to recover more than 42 Crores from Dhoni. In July 2019, SC found that Amprapali had diverted the 42.22 Crores received from the investors to pay endorsement fees to Rhiti Sports, which manages Dhoni’s endorsements.
