Swimming has been a part of the Commonwealth Games since the beginning i.e. since 1930. But India's performance in the event has been utterly disappointing as the nation has bagged just one medal in the event till now which was won by para-swimmer Prashant Karmakar who clinched a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle. India has performed well in wrestling, boxing, shooting, badminton, hockey and several other sports, but it's not yet known for producing world-class swimmers.

India has sent a four-member team of swimmers to the Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham starting later this month. Sajan Prakash, Srihari Natraj, Kushagra Rawat and Advait Paje will represent the nation. Sajan will descend in 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly, while Neeraj will take part in 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke. Kushagra will be competing in 200m, 400m and n1500m freestyle. Advaita will be with Kushagra in 1500m. Notably, India has not sent a single female swimmer to the event as none of the female contenders could secure the required quota.
