After the completion of team events, it is now time for the individual events in Table Tennis at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games. While the Women’s Team bowed out after losing to Malaysia in the quarterfinals, the Men’s team beat Singapore to defend their title. But now, the paddlers have their eyes set on individual medals. The first day started well for India with almost all of its players in action advancing to the next round.

The two mixed doubles pair of Sathiyan Gnanasekaran/Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula/Sharath Kamal won their respective R32 matches to advance to the pre-quarterfinals stage. However, the XD pair of Sanil Shetty and Reeth Tennison bowed after losing their R64 match. Meanwhile, women’s singles paddler, Manika Batra and Reeth Tennison also won their R32 matches to advance to the next round.

Mixed Doubles

Sanil Shetty/Reeth Tennison (R64)

The Indian mixed doubles pair lost to Malaysian pair of Shen Qi Wong and Tee Ai Xin 2-3 (6 - 11, 10 - 12, 13 - 11, 11 - 8, 8 - 11).

Sathiyan G/Manika Batra (R32)

The Sathiyan-Manika pair defeated Seychelles’ pair of Mick Crea/Laura Sinon 3-0 (11-1, 11-3,11-1)

Sharath Kamal/Sreeja Akula (R32)

Sharath Kamal and Sreeja Akula defeated Northern Ireland pair of Owen Cathcart and Sophey Earley 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 11-9).

Women’s Singles

Reeth Tennison (R32)

The Women’s Singles paddler beat England’s Charlotte Bardsley 4-1 (11-8, 10-12, 11-6, 12-10, 11-3).

Sreeja Akula (R32)

Akula defeated Malaysian paddler Karen Lyne 4-1 (12-10, 12-10, 4-11, 11-8, 11-8)

Manika Batra (R32)

Manika Batra defeated Canadian paddler Ching Fu in straight sets 4-0 (11-5 11-2 11-7 11-6).

Men’s Doubles

Harmeet Desai/Sanil Shetty (R32)

The men’s doubles pair of Sanil Shetty and Harmeet Desai beat Cyprus’ pair of Elia Losif and Evva Christon 3-0 (11-6, 11-5, 11-1).

Sharath Kamal/Sathiyan G (R32)

The Sharath-Sathiya pair easily cruised through Guyanese duo of Joe Alleyne and Jonathan van Lange as they beat them 3-0.
