Kyrgios beat Medvedev 7-6 (13-11), 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to reach the quarter-final stage in the last grand slam of the year.
Kyrgios registered a 7-6(3), 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Benjamin Bonzi to enter the third round of the tournament.
Hurkacz broke the nine-match winning streak of Kyrgios with a three-set quarter-final victory on Friday.

The Australian appeared before the evening session crowd and revealed that he will be withdrawing away from the tournament.
After losing the final, Kyrgios swapped his white cap with a bright red cap while receiving the runner-up trophy.

The Women's Singles final will take place on July 9 whereas the Gentlemen's Singles final will be held on July 10.
