The race to the Playoffs in IPL 2022 is getting more and more intense with every passing day. On Friday, it was the battle between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. While a win for Bangalore would have meant they still had their destiny in their own hands as face as a berth in the final four is concerned, it was Punjab who ended up winning the match by 54 runs.

After being invited to bat first, the Punjab batters got off to a great start thanks to Jonny Bairstow who provided the early impetus and ended up with 66 off 29 balls that set the base for a huge total. While Bangalore did make a comeback in the middle overs, in the end, Liam Livingstone’s quickfire innings worth 70 from 42 balls was enough to help them go past 200 despite a 4-wicket haul from Harshal Patel.

The run chase was never going to be easy for Bangalore and the fact that they lost 3 wickets inside the powerplay did not help. While they do boast of some great batting depth, they never looked to threaten the mighty score of Punjab and eventually ended up with 155/9 with Glenn Maxwell top-scoring with 35. Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the bowlers for Punjab, picking up 3 wickets for 21 runs.
