The fifth edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) is set to start to be held in the months of July and August. Although the final dates are yet to be officially announced, the tentative dates for the tournament have been doing the rounds.

The popular T20 tournament was cancelled last year due to rising cases of COVID-19 but is back this year without crowds. The TNPL officials confirmed that 32 matches will be majorly held in Chennai due to low number of COVID-19 cases in the city. TNCA have reportedly shortlisted Coimbatore, Salem, Tirunelveli, and Dindigul as the other venues to host the tournament.

“We are planning three phases for the league. We intend to start the league in Chennai because the Covid cases are down in the city. Basing on the government’s approval, the matches will be held in two other venues and we will come back to Chennai for the final,” the TNPL official told Cricbuzz.

TNPL to start on July 19; final to be played on August 15

According to reports, the tournament is set to start on July 19 and will conclude on August 15 in Chennai. However, the TNPL officials have not confirmed the dates yet. Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had given a green signal to state associations to go ahead with league cricket whilst not clashing with the Indian Premier League.
