Former India and Mumbai batter Wasim Jaffer has expressed his concerns regarding Rajasthan Royals spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s form while playing for the national team. Jaffer addressed that Chahal has been exceptional in the recent IPL but has failed to transfer his form on the international stage.

The 31-year-old has failed to perform in the ongoing T20I series as he has conceded 75 runs while picking just one wicket. Jaffer also pointed out that this was the key reason behind Chahal’s omission from the recent ICC T20 World Cup last year.

While speaking in a segment with a cricket website, Wasim Jaffer said, “The kind of impact Yuzi has in IPL, he is not transferring that into the international games for some time now. That's the reason Rahul Chahar got picked over him in the last T20 World Cup.

His numbers doesn't justify what a leg spinner should have: Jaffer

Wasim Jaffer then emphasized the problem Chahal is facing against South Africa. He talked about how the 2022 Purple Cap winner has struggled against right-handed batters which is uncommon for a leg spinner. “Especially bowling to the right-handers his numbers doesn't justify what a leg spinner should have. He bowls well to the left-handers so that is something he needs to work on,” Wasim Jaffer further added.

You need to stick with him: Jaffer

But the former Ranji Trophy winner believes that Indian team management should continue with Chahal despite his dip in form and bring another young leggie like Ravi Bishnoi into the fray. Jaffer said, “You need to stick with him, couple of bad games but he's a premium spinner. Ravi Bishnoi is the one you probably need to think, two leg spinners bowling to right-hander or the left-hander will probably have more impact.”
