German racing driver Sebastian Vettel will be making his debut with Aston Martin this season and the 33-year-old is looking forward to it already. In a recent interview, Vettel spoke at length about the car, the ethos of his new team and what he has been up to as the four-time Formula 1 champion attempts to move on from a rather disappointing campaign with Ferrari.

While he was particularly impressed by the Aston Martin AMR21, he also revealed that it was a fresh experience for him. He admitted of spending a lot of time with the technical staff to get to know the machinery better.

"I’m thrilled, the car looks really fantastic. It’s a completely new car for me, a different philosophy. I spent a lot of time with the engineers trying to familiarise myself with its characteristics, not only on the technical front but also studying the team’s procedures, so I hope it doesn’t take long to get to be perfectly in tune with the team," he said in an interaction with the Italian edition of Motorsport.

"I found a very enthusiastic group with a great spirit and always in a great mood. It’s difficult, however, to be able to make evaluations with the simulator because each system is different, but at least I have an idea. It’s a project at the beginning of its journey. We know there is still a lot of work to be done, but there is no lack of enthusiasm," he added.

Vettel picks Mercedes as favourites to clinch title

Vettel picked Mercedes as the favourties to win the title this year. He said that although Aston Martin are a strong unit, they might have to wait a year to clinch the title. However, he even gave Aston Martin a chance if they were to do a Brawn GP and win a title this season itself, stunning everyone in the process.

"Regarding our chances, we know the favourites are still Mercedes. After a winning streak like theirs, it couldn’t be otherwise and you have to be realistic – we are at the beginning of a new team project and we have a lot of time ahead to grow."
