England speedster Jofra Archer is undoubtedly one of the most important players for Rajasthan Royals going into IPL 2021. The 25-year-old was the lone warrior for the franchise last season, taking 20 wickets in 14 matches at an economy of 7.13. However, RR has suffered a huge blow ahead of the upcoming season with Archer likely to miss major chunk of the season due to injury.

What happened to Jofra Archer?

ECB released an official statement about Archer's injury on Saturday. Reflecting on the same, the board stated, "Jofra suffered a cut to his hand while cleaning at his home in January shortly before flying to India to prepare for the Test series. The injury was managed by the ECB’s medical team through the tour and it did not impact on his availability." Apart from it, Archer is also suffering from an elbow injury because of which he was ruled out of the ongoing 3-match ODI series against India.

Status of pacer's injury

ECB has now provided an update on the current status of Archer' injury. The 25-year-old reached UK on Tuesday and has been in talks with various specialists and medical consultants about his injury. He has already received another injection for the right elbow injury which will be followed with a procedure on his hand on March 29. It has been revealed that ECB medical panel and other experts opine that surgery is the best option to manage Archer's injury in long term.

Will Archer miss IPL 2021?

Looking at the current update, it seems like Archer will take some time to be completely fit. With IPL 2021 just two weeks away, there is no doubt that he will miss first part of the season. There is also a possibility that the pacer could miss the entire season, keeping in mind the 2021 T20 World Cup scheduled later this year.

Earlier, former England skipper Michael Vaughan had also commented on Archer's injury. In a conversation with Cricbuzz, he had said, "You look at Jofra Archer now, he's missing with that elbow injury, that needs rest and there is no time limit on how long it's going to take. So again, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Jofra Archer misses the whole of the IPL, we'll have to wait and see."
