After a thrilling opening ceremony of Tokyo Olympics 2020 on Friday, the stage was set for Day 1 of the mega event. The Indian contingent had kicked off their campaign with Archery rankings event yesterday where Deepika Kumari had an impressive outing. However, the medal events had to start on Saturday and all the hopes were on the Indian shooting stars to bring home country's first medal of this year.

Unfortunately, it wasn't a day to remember as India failed to clinch any medal in men's and women's individual events. But India did open their medal tally in Tokyo as weightlifter Mirabai Chanu put on a scintillating show in the 49kgs women's category. The 26-year-old lifted an overall weight of 202 kgs to secure a historic silver medal for India on Day 1.

In hockey, it was a mixed day for India as the men's team got off to a winning start while the women's team suffered a heavy defeat. From badminton to table tennis, check out all the results of Indian participants in Tokyo on Saturday.

Weightlifting

Women's 49kg - Saikhom Mirabai Chanu wins silver medal

The Indian athlete lifted 87 kgs in snatch and 115 kgs in clean and jerk to register a total lift of 202 kgs overall. While China's Hou Zhihui clinched gold medal by lifting 210 kgs, Indonesia's W. Aisah took home the bronze medal after lifting 194 kgs.

Shooting

10m Air Rifle Women's Qualification - Apurvi Chandela (621.9 points/36th position) and Elavenil Valarivan (626.5 points/16th position) failed to qualify for the final round.

10m Air Pistol Men's Qualification  - Abhishek Verma (575 points/17th position) got knocked out in the qualification round. Saurabh Chaudhary (586 points/1st position) qualified for the final round with a spectacular performance.

10m Air Pistol Men's Final - Saurabh Chaudhary (137/4 points/7th position) had a disappointing outing in the finale as he got eliminated and missed out on an opportunity to win a medal for India.

Hockey

Men's Pool A - India defeated New Zealand 3-2 on the back of two goals from Harmanpreet Singh and a penalty stroke from Rupinder Pal Singh. India's goalkeeper P.R. Sreejesh stole the show with some heroic saves.

Women's Pool A - India lost to Netherlands 1-5 in a one-sided contest. Rani Rampal scored the solitary goal for the Indian side.

Archery

Mixed Team 1/8 Eliminations - Pravin Jadhav/Deepika Kumari (IND) defeated Tang Chih-chun/Lin Chia-en (TPE). India won by 5-3.

Mixed Team Quarter-finals - Pravin Jadhav/Deepika Kumari (IND) lost to An San/Kim Je Deok (KOR). India lost by 2-6.

Tennis

Men's singles First Round - Sumit Nagal (IND) defeated Istomin Denis (UZB) by 6-4, 6-7, 6-4.

Table Tennis

Mixed Doubles Round of 16 - Sharath Kamal Achanta/Manika Batra (IND) lost to Lin Yun Ju/Cheng I Ching (TPE). The Indian duo got defeated by 8-11, 6-11, 4-11, 5-11.

Women's singles Round 1 - Manika Batra (IND) beat Tin-Tin Ho (GBR) by 11-7, 11-6, 12-10, 11-9.

Women's singles Round 1 - Sutirtha Mukherjee (IND) beat Linda Bergstrom (SWE) by 5-11, 11-9, 11-13, 9-11, 11-3, 11-9, 11-5.

Judo

Women 48 kg Elimination Round of 32 - Shushila Likmabam (IND) vs lost to Eva Csernoviczki (HUN). She lost by 0s1 to 10s1.

Rowing

Lightweight Men's Double Sculls Heat 1 - Arjun Lal/Arvind Singh (IND) finished 5th with timing of 6:40.33

Badminton

Men's doubles Group Play Stage, Group A - Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty (IND) beat Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin (TPE) by 21-16, 16-21, 27-25.

Men's singles Group Play Stage, Group D - B. Sai Praneeth (IND) lost to Misha Zilberman (ISR) by 17-21, 15-21.

Boxing

Men's Welter 63-69kg, Preliminaries - Round of 32 - Vikas Krishan Yadav (IND) lost to Sewonrets Quincy Mensah Okazawa (JPN) by 0-5.
