After a long wait, Tokyo Olympics 2020 finally begun in full swing on Saturday. It was a fantastic opening to the Games with 11 medal events taking place on Day 1. It was an action packed day in the capital of Japan as the mega event produced some remarkable performances from athletes across the globe. As expected, China got off to a scintillating start as they ended the opening day at top of the medals tally, with 3 golds and 1 bronze medal.

It was also a good day for host country Japan as they finished Day 1 on 2nd spot alongside Italy, with 1 gold and 1 silver medal each. Although India lost out the opportunity to clinch a medal in shooting events on Saturday, they did manage to earn a silver medal in women's weightlifting and finished the day at 12th spot in the standings. Surprisingly, USA didn't win any medals on day one, the first time since 1972 that this has happened.
