It’s been quite a dramatic year in world of cricket! From staying inside the bio-bubble for long times to playing so many matches behind closed doors, 2021 was quite challenging. However, it did not stop the beautiful game to produce some exciting stuff on the field, ensuring that some hilarious stuff off the field also continued. Social media was flooded with funny and rib-tickling memes throughout the year with so many major talking-points this year.

IPL getting postponed in India

As the fans were enjoying IPL 2021, it was the only source of entertainment for most people amid the concerns around COVID-19. The tournament was being played inside bio-secure bubble but much to everyone’s surprise, there was a coronavirus outbreak which led to the season getting suspended mid-way. The season was finished few months later in UAE.

Rain-marred WTC Final

The inaugural edition of World Test Championship did not really ended the way fans would have hoped for as rain played a spoilsport in the finale match between India and New Zealand. There were memes rolling out throughout the course of match but much to everyone’s delight, the reserve day ensured that there was a winner (New Zealand) in the end.

In Virat Kohli’s last year as captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore, the franchise looked on course of finally breaking their deadlock. However, their defeat at the hands of KKR in eliminator ended their dream run in UAE as ‘Ee Sala Cup Namade’ once again did not happen.

The grand finale of IPL 2021 in UAE saw Chennai Super Kings completely outplaying Kolkata Knight Riders as MS Dhoni’s side lifted their 4th title. Unfortunately for SRK, it wasn’t the Chennai Express he was hoping for as the Yellow Army seriously had an upper hand over his side.

India getting knocked out of T20 WC

After India’s back-to-back losses in T20 World Cup against Pakistan and New Zealand, all their hopes lied on Afghanistan. However, Mohammad Nabi’s side could not pull off an upset against the Kiwis as their defeat meant that India were also knocked out of the mega event.

Australia winning 6th ICC World Cup

Winning a world cup in cricket isn’t an easy task! As India were hoping to win their first World Cup in 10 years, there were many teams who were aiming to win their maiden title in history of the game. But as it turned out, it was Australia (who had won 5 ODI WCs in past) who added another trophy in cabinet by clinching their maiden T20 WC title.

It was revealed this year that there will be two new teams from next season of IPL onwards, making it a 10-team affair. While Lucknow and Ahmedabad have been confirmed as the new sides, the decision by BCCI became a major talking point on internet.

The Ashes 2021-22 turned out to be a disaster for England as they lost the first three matches, courtesy their shocking batting performance. Apart from Joe Root (who was a lone warrior), no batter looked comfortable in the middle as Australia retained the urn quite comfortably.
