Portuguese football legend and captain Cristiano Ronaldo is a record-breaking machine in the sport and the 36-year-old just never fails to amaze everyone with his brilliance. As he got set to lead the defending champions in the first match of their EURO 2020 campaign against Hungary on Tuesday, he broke another record as soon as he stepped onto the pitch. He became the first-ever player to appear in five European Championship campaigns (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020*).

And when it seemed that he would not be having a great start to the tournament against a resilient Hungary defense at their home ground, things turned upside down very quickly towards the ends. In front of a crowd of around 60,000 people who were continuously booing him through the match, CR7 showed his class in the final stages of the contest and silenced everyone in style.

Ronaldo goes past Michel Platini with 11 goals in Euros

After Raphael Guerreiro got the first goal for Portugal in the 84th minute, it was Cristiano Ronaldo show that followed as the Portuguese captain scored his first goal of the evening three minutes later through a well-taken penalty. With that goal, the 36-year-old went past Michel Platini's record of 9 goals in the history of the European Championship.

But it was not the end of CR7's magic yet in Budapest as he added cherry on top of the cake with a brilliant 92nd-minute goal, which marked his 11th goal in Euros and his 106th international goal overall. Notably, Ronaldo is now just three goals away from former Iranian footballer Ali Daei's tally of 109 goals. The 36-year-old is on the verge of breaking another record and he would be raring to make history in this tournament itself.

Here is how Twitter reacted to Ronaldo's brilliance

Twitter went berserk as Cristiano Ronaldo went past Platini's record and inched closer to Ali Daei's goals tally. While some hailed him as the GOAT, the others were just in awe of Ronaldo's record-breaking streak. The fans could not help but praise the Portuguese legend for his remarkable career and his hunger to break some of the other records every other day.
