As New Zealand sealed an emphatic win to become the first-ever World Test Championship winners, India had another salt to the wound with a major injury scare. India's most experienced pacer Ishant Sharma notably suffered a finger injury during the final stages of the match.

How did Ishant get injured?

The incident happened in the 45th over of New Zealand's second innings on Wednesday. As he came on to bowl his second delivery, Ross Taylor smashed a shot straight towards him. Although Ishant made a terrific stop to prevent a boundary, the ball struck his fingers and he seemed in a lot of pain. The physios were out to tend to his injury and he had to be taken off the field as a result. Jasprit Bumrah came to complete Ishant's over eventually.

Will the pacer be available for England series?

With the WTC Final done and dusted by that time, the Indian fans were more concerned about how serious Ishant's injury was. Considering that the 32-year-old is the leader of India's pace attack, he will be very important for India's upcoming 5-match series against England. Fortunately for India, Ishant will have some time to recover as the series against England begins on August 4.

Check out how fans reacted to Ishant's injury:

BCCI are expected to release an official statement regarding Ishant's injury very soon. The fans would just be hoping that it isn't as serious as it looked on Wednesday.
