India bundled out England for 164 in the second innings at Chepauk, completing a huge 317-run victory in the second Test of the four-match series. It was a one-sided affair in Chennai as Virat Kohli’s side completely outplayed the visitors in all the departments. After succumbing to a huge defeat in the first Test, Team India bounced back in style with a dominating performance. With the win, India have now moved to 2nd position in the World Test Championship standings.

Hitman silenced his critics

India’s batting star Rohit Sharma came under a lot of criticism after throwing away his wickets in the first Test. The 33-year-old responded by hitting a fantastic hundred (161 off 231) on a difficult Chepauk pitch, where the other batsmen struggled. His 162-run partnership with vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane in the first innings proved to be quite significant in the context of the match.

India spins a web at Chepauk

The spin-trio of Ravichandran Ashwin , Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav completely outclassed Joe Root’s side on a rank-turner at Chepauk. While Ashwin’s five-wicket haul (5/43) helped India gain a huge first innings lead, debutant Axar Patel (5/60) stepped up in the second innings. Kuldeep Yadav (2/25) also picked up two wickets to seal the win.

Ravi Ashwin steals the show

It was the local-boy Ravichandran Ashwin who stole the show during the second Test in Chennai. Ashwin (106 off 148) showed everyone how to bat on a pitch that was deemed as unplayable by experts. He smashed a brilliant century in the second innings. He unsurprisingly was as impressive with the ball as well, finishing with bowling figures of 8/96 in the match. Ashwin’s all-round heroics earned him the Man of the Match.
