Indian men's hockey team on Thursday registered a historic win as they secured a bronze medal in the match against Germany. India manage to bag their first Olympic medal in hockey after 41 years. They last won an Olympic medal in 1980. The game saw 9 goals scored in 70 minutes as both teams battled it out for the podium finish. The whole nation celebrated India's historic win at Tokyo Olympics and many celebrities and sports athletes congratulated the men's team on Twitter for the phenomenal achievement.
However, it seems former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir went a bit too far as he called India's bronze medal win bigger than Team India's World Cup wins in the past. Notably, India won the cricket World Cup in 1987, 2007, and 2011. While the 1987 campaign was led by Kapil Dev, the 2007 and 2011 World Cup was won under the leadership of MS Dhoni.

Many fans on Twitter were clearly not happy with Gambhir's tweet as they reminded him that comparing the achievements of two entirely different sports is not right and appreciable. While some users called the tweet political, others simply asked the former cricketer to calm down.

While the men's hockey team have made the Indians proud, Team India is also looking in command after the end of Day 1's play in the first Test against England. After being put to bowl, Team India made the most of the overcast conditions as they bundled out the hosts for 183 runs. England skipper Joe Root was the top scorer for the side with a well-made 64. England's top order again failed to provide a good start to the team as Rory Burns got out in the first over on a duck. At the end's play, Team India were 21/0, with KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma at the crease.
