FC Barcelona faced a shocking 1-0 defeat at the hands of Rayo Vallecano in La Liga on Sunday. This is the third defeat for Barca at the home game, following defeats against Eintracht Frankfurt and Cadiz. Barcelona went into the game with one of the strongest possible lineups as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang led the attack with Ousmane Dembele and Ferran Torres on the wings.
Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong and Gavi took the responsibilities in the midfield, while Ronald Araujo partnered with Eric Garcia for the defence and with Sergino Dest and Jordi Alba on either flank. The hosts had a terrible start to the game as Alvaro Garcia gave Rayo Vallecano the lead in the seventh minute of the game. Isi Palazon skinned Alba on the wing before chipping a pass into the box for Garzia to strike home.

The goal seemed to have shaken the Blaugrana up as they dominated the proceedings but were unable to carve out any significant chances. The 42nd minute of the game gave Barcelona an opportunity for an equalizer as Gavi came close to the nets, but his strike hit the underside of the bar.
The second half started much the same as the first, as Palazon had a great opportunity to double Rayo Vallecano’s lead, but Alba was on hand to block what was a certain goal. Barcelona then continued to put pressure on the visitors but was, once again, unable to break down a resilient defence.
Rayo Vallecano entered this game with a win over Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium, which was their first 3 points since the turn of the year as they were winless in their 13 away games prior to this one. Andoni Iraola’s side is at 11th place in the league, ten points off the relegation zone.
