The first ODI between India and Sri Lanka witnessed a dominating performance from the second string Men in Blue side led by the charismatic Shikhar Dhawan. With the senior players out of the squad, it was a golden opportunity for some of the other players to make a mark and impress everyone. The team certainly did it and that too, in some style as they went on to win the match by 7 wickets with 13.2 overs remaining.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the hosts got off to a steady start. This is when captain Dhawan introduced spin into the attack and the famous partnership of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav certainly did not disappoint. The duo scalped 2 wickets each, while Krunal Pandya also had an impressive outing as Sri Lanka could only register a total of 262/9 in 50 overs.
In reply, Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw provided a flying start to the Indian run-chase. After Shaw gave his wicket away on 43, Ishan Kishan joined the party and absolutely smashed the Sri Lankan bowlers all around the park and registered an ODI fifty on debut. Captain Dhawan (86*), along with Suryakumar Yadav (31*) got India over the line, to sum up an emphatic win.
