In a big update coming in with regards to the ongoing Pakistan Super League, UAE pacer Zahoor Khan has replaced West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell for the remainder of the Pakistan Super League 2021. Notably, Russell, who usually dictates terms to the bowlers, received a nasty blow on his helmet on Friday at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. The incident unfolded in the 14th over of the Gladiator innings during their match against Islamabad United. Although he had opted to continue to bat then, he was later diagnosed with a concussion and has now been replaced for the rest of the season.

33 wickets in 29 T20s for Zahoor Khan

The development is a big blow to Gladiators, who are already having a forgettable season, have lost yet another match-winner. Russell’s replacement Zahoor has played 29 T20s and scalped 33 wickets with a best of 3/17. Moreover, his economy of 7.31 is also very effective in this form of the game. However, in terms of batting ability, he comes across as a stark contrast to Russell, one of the most feared hitters in limited-overs cricket.

How did Russell’s concussion happen?

After hitting Islamabad bowler Musa Khan for two back to back sixes, the bowler responded with a short pitch delivery which stuck him on the helmet. Musa then followed that with a slower bouncer to get rid of the danger man. However, he couldn’t come back to take the field as Naseem Shah was allowed to take the field as Russell’s concussion substitute.
