Chris Jericho, the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion, hasn’t been a part of the promotion since 2018, but he has been very active in the pro-wrestling world regardless. The 54-year-old signed for All Elite Wrestling (AEW) in 2019 during the early stages of the newly created promotion at the time, and since then, he has put together a body of work to take them to greater heights over the last six years or so.
But, last weekend, the world of pro-wrestling went buzzing with speculation after Chris Jericho liked a post on Instagram in which it was explicitly stated that his current contract with AEW will run out in December of 2025, apart from him being open to a WWE return depending on the situation. In recent times, whenever Y2J has been asked about whether he will be interested in making his way back to WWE, he hasn’t categorically denied it.
Chris Jericho's AEW contract is up at the end of the year: Dave Meltzer
After the liked post from Chris Jericho on Instagram started circulating on the internet, there is an expectation building amongst the WWE fans in regards to potentially seeing him back in the promotion during the road to WrestleMania 42 early next year. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio addressed the latest on Y2J and said, as per WrestlePurists, “Jericho is actually a really big story. His (AEW) contract is up at the end of the year.”
“I know from a WWE standpoint that there is lots of talk there about Jericho. People speculating Royal Rumble. Nobody has officially said anything, nor will anyone officially say anything,” he added. Notably, once a rumor starts circulating in the world of pro-wrestling, it generally keeps gathering steam until there is a definitive answer to whether it turns out to be true or false.
As far as the situation regarding Chris Jericho is concerned, it will be interesting to see whether there is a follow up in coming weeks and months heading into 2026.
