Hosting an ICC tournament in itself is a big responsibility and a matter pride for any country. Even sides who are higher in ranks have to put a lot of effort to bag the hosting rights of any event organised by the apex cricket body of India. Apart from having world-class stadiums and management, there are several other requirements that need to be fulfilled for a country to bag the honour. However, if a recent media report is to be believed then USA could be the rarest of the rare countries that will get an opportunity to host an ICC event.

USA, which will get to host an ICC event for the first time ever if the report turns out to be true, will also be having West Indies as the joint host. The tournament that is in talks is the 2024 T20 World Cup. Notably, heading towards the 2024-2031 cycle, the ICC will have its eyes on getting into 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, and hosting an event in USA, in that case, will prove to be a very good move by them. A report carried by Cricbuzz states the same.

It is worth noting that T20 World Cup 2021 and that in 2022 have 16 teams, while the ODI World Cup in 2023 will be a 10-team affair. However, the 2024 event, that is expected to be held in USA and West Indies, will have 20 teams and 55 matches in total.

India likely to host 2031 World Cup

The same report also stated that the BCCI is likely to get the rights for the 2031 World Cup. It also said that the BCCI will get one additional ICC event to host in the 2024-2031 cycle. However, the path would not be easy for India as USA-West Indies, England, Australia and New Zealand will also be in contention to grab the opportunity.
