COVID-19 scare is increasing with each passing day. First, some of the players contracted the virus, following the suspension of IPL 2021 and now their family members are also becoming its victim. After Rajasthan Royals pacer Chetan Sakariya lost his father on Sunday, another veteran Indian cricketer lost his father on Monday. India's World Cup-winning team member Piyush Chawla lost his father, Mr Promod Chawla, due to Covid-19 post complications today.

Piyush Chawla loses father Pramod Kumar Chawla over COVID complications

Piyush Chawla was part of the Mumbai Indians camp in this year's IPL campaign after Chennai Super Kings released him. The veteran cricketer took to Instagram to inform about his father's demise.

In response to the demise, IPL franchise Mumbai Indians took to Twitter to condole on the loss. "Our thoughts go out to Piyush Chawla who lost his father, Mr. Pramod Kumar Chawla this morning. We are with you and your family in this difficult time. Stay strong," wrote Mumbai Indians.

The 32-year-old is at number 3 on the list of leading wicket-takers in IPL with 156 wickets from 164 matches. He did not manage to get a game in IPL 2021 for MI, although he played 7 games and scalped 6 wickets in the last season for CSK.
