The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) had been under scrutiny for quite some time before it was finally suspended on Tuesday. Earlier, many people had criticized BCCI's decision to conduct the tournament despite the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country. However, another news is doing the rounds on social media on Tuesday which has received backlash from the public.

A video from Ahmedabad has now gone viral which shows an ambulance being stopped by police to allow three buses of IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders to pass. The 17-second footage had received a very angry response from fans all over the country.

Police will never stop an ambulance on its way for any VIP convoy: JC of Police

Reflecting on the video, the Joint Commissioner of Police (traffic), Ahmedabad, Mayanksinh, told The Indian Express, “We have seen the video and are yet to verify whether the traffic at the said junction was stopped by Traffic Police or Ahmedabad Police. The police will never stop an ambulance on its way for any VIP convoy, be it of IPL players or any minister. We even don’t stop hearse vans for convoys. The case could be of momentary confusion. This is a malicious attempt to tarnish the image of police with fake and defamatory video..”

Another senior police official of the Ahmedabad Police also claimed that the video doesn’t explain if the ambulance was in a hurry as no hooters are being sounded by the driver (of ambulance). He added that it can also be the case that the ambulance just arrived at the traffic junction when the three buses were passing through and it had to wait for 5-6 seconds.
