Indian skipper Virat Kohli along with wife Anushka Sharma is once again in limelight for a generous contribution. Known to help people amid the crunch times, the couple has made a significant contribution by raising funds for a kid suffering from spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). A 3-year-old kid named Ayaansh is suffering from this disease which is known to be a lethal as it reduces the child’s life expectancy to 4-5 years. Notably, this disease can be cured only through Zolgensma- world’s costliest drug worth $2.1 million (Rs 16 crore).

SMA is a rare neuromuscular disease that affects the nerves and muscles, eventually leading to a complete organ failure. Virat and Anushka have successfully helped in raising Rs 16 crore for the treatment of young Ayaansh for a SMA-free life.

Virat & Anushka raise 11 crore to help India fight COVID-19

Earlier this month, the couple started a fundraising campaign on crowdfunding platform – Ketto, for Covid-19 relief. Their fundraising initiative '#InThisTogether' aimed to raise 7 crores. However, they successfully surpassed their target receiving donations worth Rs 11 crores. Notably, the two donated Rs 2 crore towards the fund and urged people to come forward and donate for the cause.

Virat and Anushka took to social media to thank their fans for their wholehearted contributions and informed that the funds generated would be utilized for buying oxygen concentrators and vaccine support amid the hard-hit pandemic.

“We can all continue to help so let’s not stop here. We’re raising the fundraising target to $3 Million and we know that with your help and support, we can achieve this too,” they added.
