Everyone from fans to cricket experts were left shocked after Mahendra Singh Dhoni resigned from IPL captaincy on Thursday evening. Dhoni decided to leave Chennai Super Kings' captaincy after carrying on the responsibility of captaincy for 12 years. Post resignation from captaincy, CSK CEO said, Dhoni will continue to serve the franchise as a player this season and beyond.

As soon as the news was made public by the franchise, social media started buzzing with tributary messages to the legendary skipper. While fans called it an 'end of an era', Dhoni's teammates also hailed the cricketer for his fine contribution to the game. India batting stalwart Virat Kohli, who is known to share a really good bond with MS, reacted to the news and hailed the former Indian captain.

Kohli took to social media to call Dhoni's captaincy tenure 'legendary' and also said that he will always have respect for the former CSK skipper. "Legendary captaincy tenure in yellow skip. A chapter fans will never forget. Respect always. ❤️? @mahi7781," wrote Kohli alongside a picture.

Chennai Super Kings will be playing their first game against Kolkata Knight Riders on 26th March at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It will also be Ravindra Jadeja's debut as Chennai skipper. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli will also take up his 11-year-old old role for his franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in this edition of the IPL. Kohli will play purely as a batter as he also stepped down from captaincy last year. He will now play under the leadership of Faf du Plessis in IPL 2022.

So many changes in IPL 2022

The 15th edition of the Indian T20 League will see a lot of changes from its last edition. Two new teams- Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants- have been added to the league from this season and onwards. Apart from these two teams, four more teams have seen a change in leadership. While Bangalore and Chennai have new skippers in du Plessis and Jadeja, Kolkata Knight Riders have appointed Shreyas Iyer as their new captain. Mayank Agarwal will also make a debut as captain for Punjab Kings this season.
