The ICC Player of the Decade for 2011-20 Virat Kohli hasn’t had a great start to the current decade. While he shattered records for fun during the years gone by, the former India captain hasn’t been able to score a hundred since 2019.

Although Kohli was recognized as the best batter in all formats of the game at one point in time, after his low poor form continued in the rescheduled fifth Test match against England, he has now recorded his worst Test rankings in 6 years.

The 33-year-old slipped out of the Top 10 batters rankings in Test cricket and now finds himself in the 13th position. The last time Kohli was ranked below 10 was way back in November 2016. However, the latest ICC rankings have brought a smile for England batters as Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root both saw improvements in their points.

While Root cemented his position at the helm of the rankings, Bairstow moved 11 places to secure the 10th spot. Bairstow has now amassed 1218 runs at an average of 55.36 with six centuries in the current ICC World Test Championship cycle. Australians Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith took the second and third positions respectively.

Rishabh Pant secures career-best ranking

For India, Rishabh Pant emerged as a star performer for his side as he smashed a century and a half-century in the match due to which he has reached his career-best 5th spot. India’s regular skipper Rohit Sharma who did not play the match after testing positive for COVID-19 dropped to the ninth position.

In the bowlers’ rankings, England’s veteran pacer James Anderson had an impressive outing against India as he clinched five wickets in the 1st innings and consequently has been promoted by one spot to sixth place in the Test bowling rankings. Nathan Lyon has been rewarded for taking nine wickets in the first Test against Sri Lanka with a rise of five spots to 13th.
