As Team India is recovering from the setback they received when it was confirmed that Rohit Sharma will not be playing the three-Test matches in South Africa due to an injury, they now have another big news to deal with. The latest update reveals that star India batter Virat Kohli will not play in the ODI-leg of the same tour.

Kohli has planned a holiday with his family in January to celebrate the first birthday of his child Vamika and the ODI series coincides with the first birthday month of his daughter and the 32-year-old will thus, miss the three fixtures against the Proteas.

“Hi guys… will quickly share something. Last night when I tweeted I had heard something controversial but couldn’t share, it was because of the following reasons: 1) I heard Rohit won’t play Tests & Virat won’t play ODIs. You can imagine how shocked I was. Virat has planned a holiday with family, so he won’t play the ODIs. Remember, it’s his child’s 1st birthday month,” tweeted a Twitter handle by name KSR which has a reputation of putting out the correct information.

Later, a BCCI source confirmed the development.

“Yes, Kohli has asked for a small break in January to spend some time with his family. It effectively means that he would miss the ODI series against South Africa,” the source was quoted as saying in an ANI report.

Earlier, Rohit had spoken at length about the legacy Kohli has left behind as the leader. He stated that the team had a great time playing under him and he has put the team in a situation from where there is no looking back. The full interview is available on BCCI TV.

“He’s (Virat) put the team in a situation where there is no looking back. Those five years he has led the team, he led from the front every time we stepped onto the park. There was clear grit and determination to win every game. That was the message to the entire squad,” said Rohit Sharma.

“We had a great time playing under him. I have played a lot of cricket with him, I have enjoyed each and every moment and I’ll still continue to do that. We need to keep getting better as a team and as individuals and that will be the focus not just for me but for the entire squad moving forward,” he added.
