The 2022 T20 World Cup is just a few months away now and therefore cricket analysts and experts have started naming their choices for the squads for the biennial event. Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag also took part in the discussion and named his choices for the top three batting positions. And to everyone’s surprise, he did not have Virat Kohli’s name in his picks.

Virender Sehwag rather went for Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Ishan Kishan as the batters for the first three batting slots. The former batter who was known for his aggressive shots said having Kishan in top three will allow India to maintain the right-left combination at the top of the order.

"India has options aplenty when it comes to hard hitters in T20s. However, I would personally vouch for Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and KL Rahul as the top three batters for the World Cup in Australia," Virender Sehwag said. "The right-hand and left-hand combination of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, or for that matter, Ishan and KL Rahul could be quite interesting for the World T20," he added.

Umran Malik must be in the squad: Sehwag

Apart from talking about the top three batters, the former India opener also talked about the bowling attack India should go with to Australia. Virender Sehwag vouched for Umran Malik alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami for the pace attack. The 43-year-old said that Malik has impressed him the most and thus he must be in India’s T20 World Cup squad.

"If there is one pacer who has thoroughly impressed me, of late, it is none other than Umran Malik. He should definitely be part of India's plans as one of the key bowlers alongside the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami," Virender Sehwag stated. "This IPL has given us many promising young bowlers, but Umran's skills and talent will definitely earn him a place in the Indian across all three formats in the long run," he remarked.
