How would an athlete feel if an external factor forces him to finish last in a race, he was leading at one point? Italy’s 18-year-old athlete Alberto Nonino, who became a victim of the exact same thing, would be the best person to answer this question. Nonino, who was competing in a race at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships lost a race due to a wardrobe malfunction.

The 18-year-old Italian athlete who was competing in the 400-meter of decathlon in Cali, Colombia started the race as one of the favorites and it seemed he will finish first but something happened in between the race and Nonino finished in the last position. He started off well by gaining pace against his competitors, but after Nonino crossed the middle lane, he looked uncomfortable, slowed down, and was seen reaching down to hold his crotch multiple times.

In a video going viral on the internet, the Italian athlete is visibly seen having some problem with his bottom wear and he is trying to adjust his shorts in between the race. Resultantly, he lags behind and finishes last with a time record of 51.57 seconds. Later, it was revealed that Nonino’s genitals kept falling out of the shorts making him uncomfortable.

The 18-year-old athlete was devastated after this incident and shared a post on Instagram urging everyone to not share the links to blogs and posts related to it. Nonino also called it an accident and pointed out that while the video may seem funny to many, it was a horrible experience for him. He added that his family and friends are helping him get over the trauma. He also

“I just want to talk to you a little bit about the rumpus there’s been on blogs and social media in general. I’m conscious it was obviously an accident and I’d like to tell you I’m aware of the reaction and you don’t need to send me the links to the blogs out there,” Nonino stated in an Instagram story.
