India all-rounder Washington Sundar, who was set to make a comeback at the international level after missing out on cricketing action for almost three months (for India), might have to wait a little longer. It’s reported that Sundar might miss the Zimbabwe tour owing to an injury he suffered in the United Kingdom. Notably, the all-rounder was included in the ODI squad set to play three games against Zimbabwe in the coming week.

Washington Sundar has suffered a shoulder injury while playing for Lancashire in the Royal London Cup and hence may not fly to Zimbabwe. The all-rounder injured his left shoulder while diving on the field during a Royal London One-Day match between Lancashire and Worcestershire at Old Trafford on Wednesday (August 10). The club posted an update on Twitter stating that, "@Sundarwashi5 has left the field after receiving treatment on his left shoulder following a heavy landing (sic)."

A Cricbuzz report claimed that Washington Sundar will not travel to Zimbabwe for the three-match ODI series. “Sundar was to fly to Harare from the UK but it looks a doubtful proposition as there is a question mark over his fitness,” the report said. It further quoted a member of Lancashire County Club saying, "We're awaiting an update. Will let you know as soon as I get it, hopefully later today."

Notably, India is touring Zimbabwe for the first time in six years. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a strong 16-member team that will be led by KL Rahul and managed by VVS Laxman in the absence of regular coach Rahul Dravid, who has just returned from a two-month tour of England, West Indies and the USA. Rahul was the latest addition to the squad on the special request of the cricketer who aims to ensure he has vital match-time ahead of the Asia Cup.
