Australia continued their winning spree in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup in New Zealand as they beat South Africa by five wickets on Tuesday at the Basin Reserve. Captain Meg Lanning, who has been in sensational form and missed out on a hundred against India, more than made up for it by scoring an unbeaten 135 on this occasion and taking her team home.
Yet hours after the match has concluded, the biggest talking point of the match on social media has been the catch that Ashleigh Gardner grabbed to get rid of Laura Wolvaardt. The effort was so majestic that the video of the catch has gone viral on the internet. It was not only shared on social media by the official handle of the International Cricket Council (ICC) but even Cricket Australia (CA) decided to have some fun and asked fans to edit the image and share the best memes.
That was enough to start a meme fest on social media.
But first, have a look at the effort from Gardner here:

As far as the cricketing action is concerned, South Africa posted 271 for 5 in their 50 overs with Wolvaardt scoring 90 and captain Sune Luus chipping in with a 52. However, Lanning’s hundred was too good for the Proteas as the Kangaroos won the game with 28 balls remaining.
